Lakers Lose the Dwight Howard Sweepstakes to Houston

Well looks like dark times are coming. The Dwight Howard experiment is over for the Lakers as he chose the Rockets over the purple and gold. None of this is official until July 10, but yeah, Howard's gone.

The Dwightmare is over. If you're a loyal Laker fan, you knew this was coming, if you're bandwagoner, pack your bags to Houston or go across the hallway to be Clippers fans because you guys are not wanted. Yeah dark times are coming. I know one season and we'll be in salary cap heaven at the end of 2014 because Gasol and Kobe are going to be free agents. But then again, what happens if we don't sign LeBron, what happens if we don't sign Carmelo or Westbrook considering 2014's hot free agents? That's something to think about my Laker brethren, the pros and cons of waiting for 2014 for more cap space to sign big name players for a max deal and mortgaging the future.

In other words our future is screwed because we don't have any picks to build through the draft. We traded them away for Gasol in '08 and we traded a lot of our picks last year to acquire Nash and Howard. It's an eerie similarity to the Raiders from 09-12 when we traded for Richard Seymour, Aaron Curry, and finally killed with Carson Palmer. 2 years of rebuilding and next year we too will be in salary cap heaven considering the job Reggie McKenzie has redone, but we have to consider pros and cons too to who we sign next season. I'm going off topic, but it's the truth, the Lakers are in the same problem now that the Raiders had to endure since Dwight has bolted LA for Houston.

Lastly, let me make a shoot at the current regime of the Laker organization: Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak, and Mike D'Antoni, you might as well nickname them the Three Stooges because this is a travesty that they have burned a prestigious franchise like the Lakers to the ground. Little Jimmy can't ride the coattails of his dad and has a huge insatiable ego, Kupchak turned from a great GM to an ass-kissing "YES" man who answers to Jim, and D'Antoni, um you know what he is capable of as a head coach. Jerry Buss is turning in his grave and Phil Jackson is somewhere in Montana Skyping with Jeanie, laughing at her brother's circus. As a Laker fan for 13 years and a Raider fan for 12 years, I wouldn't be surprised if Little Jimmy and Kupchak go into full panic mode like Al Davis (RIP) did with the Raiders in the last 10 years since Super Bowl 37 and do a coaching carousel that all started with the firing of Mike Brown, except they have done it worst already.

The future is getting dark for the Lakers and rebuilding is going to be a long process if we lose out on the LeBron James sweepstakes next year. All I can say, best of luck Dwight in Houston, Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak, you guys have a lot of explaining to do because both of your overconfident bullshit has finally bitten you in the ass. Laker fan for life, but the front office needs a major overhaul and hire people who give a damn about the franchise's history and its tradition to win.
