Raiders Ink Cordarrelle Patterson

This free agent addition is worthy of a separate post. Last night, the Raiders have signed Vikings' Wide Receiver and Return Specialist, Cordarrelle Patterson. The contract details will be updated when they come out.

Al Davis would smile at this acquisition. Speed kills. The Raiders have not had a solid kickoff returner since Jacoby Ford. Jalen Richard showed some flashes last season, but he's expected to duke it out with DeAndre Washington for #2 RB spot or eventually the #1 spot if Latavius Murray does not re-sign. Patterson can bring the spark back in the special teams unit when the Raiders receive at kickoff. We tend to forget he set the record for a kickoff return for a TD at 109 yards against Green Bay a few years back. As a receiver, he has a lot of upside as a deep threat burner. His receiving stats in Minnesota might be mediocre. However, think about the quarterbacks he's played with: Christian Ponder, Matt Cassel, Sam Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater. Derek Carr is head above shoulders better than those QBs listed. He's gonna get a chance to add deep threat potential to an already stellar receiving corps with Cooper, Crabtree, and Roberts. Patterson's presence will make defenses think twice on putting a high safety on Cooper. This is an outstanding, bargain signing from Reggie McKenzie. Welcome to the Raider Nation, Cordarrelle Patterson!
